Zachary grew up here in Nanaimo, but began his career in medical aesthetics by attending the government accredited college for medical aesthetics and laser technology in Port Coquitlam. This education immersed him in comprehensive theory, paired with months of clinical hands on training and instructor led evaluations. This opportunity continues to allow Zach to demonstrate not only comprehensive education, but a practice of integrity and safety.

Some of Zachary’s top values within the industry are evidence-based and ethical practice, communication & collaboration, patient education, and creating a space of safety for people to feel most comfortable in. Zach also ensures he jumps into any opportunities for continuing education.

Zach’s goal is to help each individual feel their best, wether that be a new skincare regime, microneedling, chemical peels, or even a pep-talk! He understands that the journey will look different for each and every client.

Zachary has recently completed the LPN nursing program at VIU, and when he is not working as an aesthetic nurse, he is working in frontline addictions and harm reduction with the goal of providing primary and addictions care with a trauma-informed approach of meeting individuals where they are at.

My name is Shawna and I was born and raised in Nanaimo, B.C. I have been a Registered Nurse in this community for the last 7 years and completed my Bachelor of Nursing Degree at Vancouver Island University in 2015. Soon after graduation, I found a passion for Emergency Nursing and went on to finish my speciality Emergency Nursing training through BCIT. In addition to my Medical Aesthetics practice, I continue to work in Nanaimo Regional General Hospital’s Emergency Department.

I have always had a strong passion for Medical Aesthetics and have dreamed of providing these services to my community. With my wide range of practical Nursing experience, knowledge of Human Anatomy, and years of clinical injecting experience, Medical Aesthetics has been a natural fit. As a Registered Nurse, I have worked in Oncology (primarily chemotherapy) for over ten years. Prior to becoming a nurse, I was interested in a career in aesthetics, so this addition in my nursing practice simply makes sense.

In some ways, oncology and medical aesthetics could not be more different! But there are many skills that I have honed as an RN in cancer care that can be transferred to my work at Rise:

In 2014, Lauren graduated from North Island College with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Shortly afterward, she relocated to the mainland to refine her skills as a new nurse, delving into a specialty in critical care and spending three years in the ICU.

Upon returning to Vancouver Island in 2019, Lauren shifted into post-anesthetic recovery nursing and completed further education in renal dialysis. Her commitment to lifelong learning is evident, particularly in aesthetic nursing. Lauren’s genuine commitment to client care is apparent in her approach. Drawing on her nursing experience, she delivers safe and meticulous care while providing a comfortable environment, always striving to meet clients’ unique needs and goals. This dedication extends to her role at Rise Medical Aesthetics, where she aims to consistently bring her patients’ best face forward.

Before entering the nursing field, Lauren’s passion for enhancing people’s beauty and confidence was evident in her work as an aesthetician and makeup artist. I’m the owner and creator of Rise Medical Aesthetics. As a Registered Nurse since 2006, I’ve been doing a variety of injections for over 15 years. As I’ve begun to do medical aesthetics, facial injections have been a natural extension of my already well established practice and I’m looking forward to exploring different medical treatments such as dermal fillers, sclerotherapy, and microneedling. I am excited to be working alongside very knowledgeable and talented Nurses to provide therapeutic and cosmetic injectable neuromodulator treatments.

In addition to launching Rise Medical Aesthetics, I completed my Master’s in Nursing, Nurse Practitioner Degree in 2019 and currently work a half-time position at the Nexus Primary Care Clinic in Nanaimo, as a Family Nurse Practitioner. I am passionate about advanced nursing practice and developing the profession towards a more holistic healthcare model. I deliver full scope primary care across the patient’s lifespan and feel privileged to be a part of this profession.
